Every two years, thousands of visitors flock to the seafront in Dieppe at the end of the summer to celebrate one of the biggest kite festivals in the world. This popular free family event returns in September 2022 when it will celebrate its 40th birthday. Don’t miss out on this must-see spectacle!
A SKY FULL OF RAINBOW-COLOURED KITES
Imagine the sky of Dieppe filled with colourful kites of all shapes and sizes, from giant animals and hand-painted designs to kites taking part in the competition, all dancing together in the sky, filling the crowds below with awe. The Dieppe International Kite Festival takes place every two years right on the seafront in Dieppe, both across its beautiful eight acres of lawn and on the shingle beach. Welcoming around 500,000 kite enthusiasts and spectators from all over the world, this year’s festival will showcase some of the world’s most incredible kites and promises to be a fun-filled event for the whole family.
AN INTERNATIONAL GATHERING
With more than 40 countries taking part in this kite-flying extravaganza, the Dieppe International Kite Festival is a truly international gathering. Representing all five continents, kite enthusiasts and professionals will fly and exhibit all sorts of different kites. Don’t miss the big parade on the first Sunday of the event where you can admire a range of spectacular kites from all over the world, dotting the sky with bright colours. Enjoy a cultural experience as hundreds of guests march in traditional costume through the streets of the seaside resort, proudly displaying their original creations. In 2020, the theme of the festival will be ‘The Planet’ and will celebrate the peoples and cultures of the world, with a strong focus on conservation.
AN AWESOME SHOW
Heads in the clouds, yet feet firmly on the ground, visitors to the festival can get involved in interactive activities such as kite-building workshops and sessions with kite-flying professionals, and enjoy the excellent live entertainment, arts and crafts, and market stalls. The festival features everything kids love, especially on Children’s Day, where there are teddy bears’ first flights, balloon releases, a wind maze and other fun wind-related activities. Closing the festival, the stunning evening light show where hundreds of kites magically light up the night, is a highlight not to be missed.
