In Normandy, the pervading presence of rivers and the sea coast, the changeable weather and unique quality of light, together with our rich soils and gentle landscapes are the perfect setting for all those passionate about the art of gardening and the cultivation of art. Let’s join Claude Monet at his gate as he greets us, as he greeted the Duke of Trévise in 1920 on his 80th birthday with the words: “Why don’t we take a turn in the garden?” Why not indeed!
NORMANDY, LAND OF GARDENS
Waterfalls, waterways, mills, set-piece water features, lakes and ponds are all testimony to the work commissioned by landowners and designed by landscape architects and gardeners. The result presents to the visitor the beauties of nature: garden design blended into the environment.

The rose comes in many forms and colours that never fail to fascinate – English roses, Old Roses, climbing roses, scented roses, thornless varieties, modern hybrids….For all those passionate about roses we have laid out a trail that links up a dozen Normandy rose garden collections.

But some garden owners have thought to transform their garden into a permanent exhibition space. Nature and nurture, the garden and its plants with sculpture and painting all come together to the great delight of everyone who comes.
