Selling or searching for second-hand treasures in car-boot sales and flea markets makes for a great day out. Once you’ve got the bug, no holiday is complete without time spent hagging over antiques or poking through bric-a-brac! Le Château de la Fresnay car-boot sale

Meander your way through more than 300 stalls and bag a bargain at this event held in the gardens of the Château de la Fresnay (a listed building dating back to the 17th century) in Falaise, set among linden trees in bloom. You’re guaranteed to find yourself a bargain at this huge car-boot sale, the proceeds for which go to a local primary school.

Les Puces du Bec flea market

Known for its permaculture school and 1,000-year-old abbey, Le Bec-Hellouin is a small market town in the Eure département which is officially recognised as one of the ‘most beautiful villages in France’. Walking around ‘Les Puces du Bec’ flea market is a great opportunity to unearth unique pieces at great prices. You can even find ceramics that were made locally by Benedictine monks. While you’re here, you also need to check out the arts and antiques shop where you’re sure to find a bargain or two!

La Chapelle d'Andaine flea market and bazaar

La Chapelle d’Andaine flea market and bazaar in the Normandie-Maine Regional Natural Park is one of the most famous in the region and with good reason. It’s a perfect place to wander around, get a bit of inspiration, treat yourself to some great buys and test your haggling skills.

Dieppe's big summer car-boot sale

Held on Europe’s largest seafront lawns, Dieppe’s popular car-boot sale makes for a fun day out with the family, whether you’re just browsing, looking for something specific or perhaps hoping to stumble upon a gem. Set in beautiful surroundings with between 100 and 200 sellers, you won’t be able to leave without picking something up, whether it’s collector vinyls, children’s toys or second-hand clothes. A bargain hunter’s paradise on the Alabaster Coast!

La Chapelle-Urée flea market

Fancy Normadyn tripe for breakfast? 25km away from Villedieu-les-Poêles, this morning snack is a local tradition at La Chapelle Urée flea market, which is held every year on the 15 August bank holiday. The event welcomes over 500 exhibitors, making it a perfect time to channel your inner bargain hunter and collector!
