- Petit-Berneval and artists in the 19th century: a place of resource and source of inspiration -
The 19th century is already half over. Industrial advances, led by steam power, breathed new energy into France. Dieppe was not isolated from this effervescence.
On the contrary, the boom in sea bathing made it a favorite resort for artists and intellectuals. Among them were Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Camille Pissarro, whose quest for inspiration (or perhaps for a genuine haven of peace, far from the hustle and bustle) took them further east, to "Petit-Berneval".
In their wake, Oscar Wilde and Auguste Perret were also touched by its beach, its village and its singular cliffs. An environment preserved since the "Belle Époque", which you are invited to immerse yourself in.
