Pierres en Lumières > Cimetière Notre-Dame

Major events,

GRANVILLE

Created in 1815, facing the sea on the border of the communes of Granville and Donville-les-Bains, the Notre-Dame cemetery contains the graves of famous names from the city?s history, combined with architecture that is sometimes remarkable. The cemetery is home to shipowners, sailors, warriors, artists, Granville politicians and many women who reflect part of the town?s history. The cemetery includes seven tombs listed on the supplementary inventory of historical monuments.

A project to enhance the cemetery was launched in 2022 to highlight its heritage, historical, memorial and landscape qualities. The project includes refurbishment of the military square, creation of a memorial and heritage trail, and refurbishment of a number of outstanding monuments.

On Saturday, May 18, 2024, as part of the Pierres en Lumières festival, the tombs of some of Granville's most illustrious figures will be illuminated.
