Marked by the destruction of the city of Munich in the midst of the Second World War, the composer, then at the height of his powers, delivers a monumental work that blends lyricism and desolation. This tear-jerking yet hope-filled program is performed by a young team of passionate virtuosos. The Metamorphoses are paired with the Piano Quartet Op. 13 by a Strauss who was just 20 years old, already revealing the composer?s full orchestral potential.
