Etretat Gardens

You'll fall in love with the weird and wonderful Jardins d'Etretat!

Gardens with a twist

Les Jardins d’Étretat are a stunning modern addition to this famous seaside resort. In 1905, Madame Thebault, a famous actress of the early twentieth century, and a close friend of Claude Monet, built a house and started a small avant-garde garden here. That garden is now home to some incredible stone sculptures that melt into the sculptured ivy shrubbery, all of this on a hillside looking out over the magnificent coastal panorama! Created by famous landscape architect Alexandre Grivko, this site will impress impressionism lovers as well as admirers of contemporary art.

What to see and do

  • The gardens sit on Etretat's East Cliff, just opposite the Notre-Dame de la Garde chapel.
  • Book a table at the Domaine Saint-Clair - Le Donjon in Etretat, and set your eyes on Jean-Charles de Castelbajac's fresque. Inspired by the place, the sea and his emotions, the famous designer recently created a colourful mural painting for the restaurant.
  • Another quirky addition to Etretat! Close to the gardens and the town centre, Le Bateau Caloge is an old craft that has been converted into an intimate and cosy gite!
