In addition to the presence of German soldiers, Cherbourg?s strategic location and fortifications meant that British forces regularly bombed the town from July 1940 onwards, making life particularly harsh for the inhabitants under occupation. Traces of this period, blended into the landscape, as well as accounts of the daily lives of the inhabitants, shed light on these difficult years.
The tour is led by a licensed guide in partnership with the town of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin.
