When the Germans arrived in June 1940, Cherbourg was virtually untouched, except for its military sites. The town became a veritable fortress: the "Festung von Cherbourg". Soldiers took up residence in many houses and public buildings, and the occupation lasted 4 years. On June 23, 1944, the Americans liberated the town and restored all the port facilities needed for the landing of military equipment. They returned the town in October 1945.
Every Tuesday from July 9 to August 27 by Claire YVON in July and Marie-Claude PIETANCE in August.
