Projection de l’Opéra : Le Songe d’une nuit d’été

Major events,

PONT-L'EVEQUE

As part of its partnership with Micro-Folie, the Opéra national de Paris is pleased to offer the Micro-Folie network a free screening of the ballet A Midsummer Night's Dream, adapted from the work of William Shakespeare, for an exceptional evening on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 6pm in Pont-l?Évêque. In partnership with Les Dominicaines, Espace Culturel & Artothèque.

Choreographed by the celebrated George Balanchine, to music by composer Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, with the stars, principal dancers and corps de ballet of the Paris Opéra.

Many choreographers have drawn dramatic material for their ballets from Shakespeare. George Balanchine was no exception.

In 1962, he created his own version of Shakespeare?s comedy for the New York City Ballet, set to music by Mendelssohn. Faithful to his vocabulary, which he blends with subtle pantomime, he unfolds a complex sentimental plot in two acts and six tableaux. Around Theseus, Duke of Athens, and Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, a domestic quarrel between the King of the Elves and the Queen of the Fairies, the mischievous Puck and his magic potion, and a troupe of amateur actors intertwine. A Midsummer Night?s Dream is one of George Balanchine?s rare narrative ballets.

Set and costume design was entrusted to another great magician of the stage, Christian Lacroix.
