Fête de la mer

Major events,

VILLERVILLE

21/07/2024

In Villerville, this tradition has been perpetuated since 1896. The town drapes its streets in fishing nets, remembering sailors and fishermen who have passed on.

The festivities kick off in the morning with a religious ceremony in the Notre-Dame de l'Assomption church at 9:30 am, followed by the traditional musical parade through the village streets from 10:15 am. To the accompaniment of bagpipes, veterans, officials and young sailors, proud to carry at arm's length the twenty or so carefully decorated model boats, set sail for the sea blessing in tribute to those lost at sea (around 10:45am).
From 11:30 a.m., catering is available on site.
In the afternoon, various associations offer musical entertainment: demonstrations of seamanship and rope-making by associations restoring old riggings (Le P'tit Foc and Le Marie Fernand), sea rescue dogs (Newfie's Normandie)...
