How the art of Bonsai resonates with hip-hop dance
Hip-hop as developed by Bruce Chiefare is fundamentally synonymous with freedom. In addition to the various evolutions of hip-hop dance, his heritage as a breaker and performer in numerous companies hybridizes with his passion for the art of bonsai.
Through their organic, uncluttered movements, shared on stage with Phynox, they produce a light dance that fights weightlessness and emancipates the body as well as the individual. They write in space in the same way that bonsai trees grow, following the lines of sinuous branches, moving freely and emerging from any ground. The plasticity of the plant is combined with that of the body in a duo that takes a different look at hip hop.
