Michele Salimbeni, screenwriter and film producer, presents a unique and original lecture on the little-known role of director John Ford during the Second World War.
American film director John Ford (1894-1973) took part in the Allied landings in Normandy and was personally involved in Operation Overlord, directly commissioned by the U.S. General Staff to document, through film, the European invasion that British Prime Minister Winston Churchill called "the most difficult and complicated operation ever carried out". It would become the most important testimony in the history of cinema. Through the immense human value of Operation Overlord, we will explore the impact this historic moment had on John Ford?s cinema and on the history of cinema in general.
In the course of the meeting, we will use some of these images to analyze this aspect, in an attempt to define the influence of Ford?s work - and in particular his documentaries during the Second World War - on modern and future cinema. In conclusion, we show the importance of Ford in the history of cinema.
