grandcamp-Maisy is home to the memorial to the Guyenne and Tunisie heavy groups, integrated into the Royal Air Force following an agreement with the Armée de l'Air. The Guyenne group was engaged on the night of June 5-6. These crews were among the few Frenchmen directly involved in D-Day operations. They paid a heavy price, as half of them perished in operations. A conference on these little-known groups will take place on May 24, and a ceremony will be held on May 25 in the presence of the French armed forces, the French Air Force and the Royal Air Force.
Further information: The AAAGL was founded by airmen from the Guyenne and Tunisia groups in 1948 to perpetuate the memory of these men. Today, there are two surviving members, and descendants and aviation enthusiasts alike meet in this association. Strong links are maintained with Great Britain (2 annual ceremonies) and links are created with the Netherlands and Germany, where plaques commemorate this memory.
