The 8th US Army Air Force Airmen Monument is a memorial to the bomber crews of the 544th Bomb Squadron, 384th Bombardment Group of the 8th US Army Air Force. It consists of a bronze sculpture of a shredded B-17, perched on a granite pylon.
It was erected in 1997. It is the work of artist Pierre Fouesnant. The names of the deceased airmen are engraved on a commemorative plaque.
Objectives of the ceremony :
=>To pay tribute to the two crews of the American bombers of the 8th Air Force by inviting the population of Rocheville and Bricquebec en Cotentin to demonstrate their attachment to our liberators.
=>Inaugurate part of a B 17 (a wing) preserved by the local residents on the site.
=>To remember and share the history of the Battle of Normandy with the younger generations of Rocheville and Bricquebec en Cotentin.
