80eme anniversaire du D’DAY et de la Bataille de Normandie

Major events,

ROUEN

To 15/10/2024

The year 2024 will be marked by strong emotions as it celebrates the 80th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. International commemorations attended by heads of state, spectacular fireworks displays, concerts, parachute drops, balls and many other events are planned throughout the year to commemorate this historic event.

Every year, events take place around June 6, the anniversary of the Allied landings. However, every 5 years, the celebrations take on a special dimension, with events organized throughout the year, all over Normandy. Highlights include the setting ablaze of the coast with synchronized fireworks displays at major D-Day sites, Liberty concerts at Omaha Beach, Liberation balls, and an international parachute drop of hundreds of servicemen over Sainte-Mère-Eglise.

The festivities will take place throughout the year, particularly in fine weather, offering everyone a great opportunity to join in this fraternal spirit. From February 25 to May 4, 2024, 80 tours will be offered to Normans thanks to a partnership between the Normandy Region and the Fédération des Guides de Normandie. These tours will cover a variety of themes, including the reconstruction of destroyed towns, the fate of civilians during and after the war, the role of women during the Battle of Caen, and the situation of children during the war.
