The Château de Fervaques Oriental plane is the largest and oldest Oriental plane in France. Since 2002, it has been recognized as a remarkable tree in France by the A.R.B.R.E.S association. This Platanus orientalis, possibly brought back by crusaders returning from Jerusalem, is over 500 years old. Its trunk has a circumference of 14 m, and it has been measured that 21 children of 8 years old can walk around it holding hands. It is 25 to 28 m high and has a 36 m wingspan. At midday, its shadow covers 1,000 m². Its conical shape and "elephant-foot" base give it an impression of remarkable power and unmistakable elegance.
