For Pierres en lumières, come and discover the history of this promontory in the Armorican Massif, culminating at 117 m, during a walk accompanied by a guide.
Montagne du Roule is one of Cherbourg's strongest symbols. It has watched over the town since medieval times. Successively hermitage, redoubt, fort and fortress, it is still owned by the French Navy. Access was via the plateau until the 19th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, a small bucolic path on the hillside (the "petites rampes") was the place to be for Cherbourgeois strolls. The military built the large ramps (now Montée des résistants) to facilitate access to the summit for troops and military equipment.
Guided tours at 6pm and 9pm, with a walk along the Montée des Résistants. Duration: 1 hr
At the end of the tour, take advantage of the Musée de la Libération, open free of charge on the occasion of Museum Night
