Located in the heart of the Clérette Valley, the Parc de Clères is home to an English-style botanical garden planted with some rare species of plants, several remarkable buildings (a Renaissance chateau, a 16th century manor house and ruins of a medieval castle) as well as 1,400 animals, most of them roaming freely.
Among these animals, you'll see flamingos, scarlet ibises, cranes, turacos and bee-eaters as well as red pandas, tamarins and antelope. The park was founded in the 19th century by Count Louis-Hector de Béarn and is inspired by the 18th century English-style parks.
As for the garden, Henry Avray-Tipping, an English landscape architect from the "Arts and Crafts" movement designed the gardens at the beginning of the 20th century at the request of the ornithologist Jean Delacour, who was then the owner of the site.
Every year, the Parc de Clères organises events and activities in order to inform the public about the role played by animal parks and the importance of protecting biodiversity.
The lorikeets' aviary will open in spring 2021 to the greatest delight of the visitors!
