With Anne-Marie LEBLIC, tour guide.

To protect themselves from the wind and gusts of wind, Cauchois farmers have used their ingenuity to turn the commonplace "brise vent" into a highly effective tool. Today, there isn't an agricultural engineer who doesn't question the effectiveness of the "brise vent cauchois". It appeared at the turn of the 18th century, drawn on land registry maps, and was to characterize the Pays de Caux until agricultural consolidation brought about its demise. The smallest plot of land was delimited by a slope planted with tall trees, and it was at the turn of the 1970s that a geographer took an interest in this unusual landscape and coined the term "clos-masure". But what remains of it today? We continue to destroy, cut down, uproot and flatten the slopes in the name of intensive agriculture, when we urgently need to recreate this environment as the only response to inescapable climate change. So, this year, we?ve chosen to take you on a tour of some of our clos-masures before they too disappear.
