The Priory dates back to the 16th century. It was built as the principal residence of the d?Hacquenouville family, one of whose most illustrious members was Roger d?Hacquenouville, chamberlain to King Charles VI of France in the early 15th century. The manor passed into the hands of a religious community in 1692. The Dieppe Jesuits moved in shortly afterwards, and remained there until 1762. The manor was bought in 1869 by Edmond Delvincourt, the composer?s grandfather. The family entertained numerous personalities from the artistic world. Delvincourt composed several works here, including his Trio for piano, violin and cello, in a small pavilion he had built in the garden in 1907 for seclusion and quiet work.
Rouxmesnil-Bouteilles has been awarded the "LABEL PATRIMOINE RURAL" by the Département. This label recognizes heritage of architectural, historical, artistic, scientific or traditional interest.
