Driven out of Cherbourg by the plague in 1626, the congregation found refuge in Valognes.
Construction of the church was completed in 1648. With around 80 nuns, the community's mission was to provide for the education of young ladies and give shelter to orphans.

The façade features a striking Baroque portal. The abbess's dwelling is a fine classical edifice, while the conventual buildings are organized around a cloister with an arcaded gallery.

Confiscated during the French Revolution, the former abbey has been home to the Valognes hospital since 1810.
