Les Franciscaines en scène – Lisbeth Gruwez & Claire Chevallier : “Piano Works Debussy”

Choreographer-dancer Lisbeth Gruwez and pianist Claire Chevallier join forces to create a show in which the breath, tonicity and physical rhythm of the former combine with the talent of the latter, nourished by the eternal modernity of Debussy.
Claude Debussy revolutionized music at the turn of the 19th century. Flemish choreographers have been shaking up the aesthetic canons of dance since the 1980s. Lisbeth Gruwez, who immersed herself in this effervescence notably with Jan Fabre, of whom she was an outstanding performer, gives a choreographic concert in perfect harmony with pianist Claire Chevallier, herself an artistic accomplice of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. From turbulence to inner questioning, Lisbeth Gruwez creates a work of great maturity in which gestures, between weightlessness and tragic sentiment, dance the space
between the notes, synonymous with music according to Claude Debussy. The dancer's body gives flesh to the music, as if slipping into the singer's role. A choreographic recital in which every moment is a grace.
