« Libération – Reconstruction de Valognes »

Major events,

VALOGNES

To 26/09/2024

Bringing together a range of documentary materials and works from municipal collections, this exhibition explores the history of the town from its occupation to its long Reconstruction, including the terrible bombardments that preceded the Liberation on June 20, 1944. Alongside old photographs, paintings, drawings and engravings of the Saint-Malo church bear witness to this period, which profoundly marked the physiognomy of the "Little Versailles of Normandy". The exhibition continues in the heart of the town, where installations invite you to wander around and discover archival images.

To accompany the exhibition, a free brochure (written by Michel Muller and Julien Deshayes) tells the story of these events and suggests an itinerary for discovering the town. It is available from the Hôtel-Dieu, the Julien de Laillier media library and the Tourist Office.

Hôtel-Dieu closed in August.
