Louis SCLAVIS was born in Lyon in 1953. He began learning the clarinet at the age of 10 in his local brass band, and went on to study at the Lyon Conservatoire.
In the early '70s, he played in groups inspired by Soft Machine, Sun Râ and the Art Ensemble of Chicago, and performed with theater and dance troupes in the Living Theater and Bread and Puppet movements.
He began his professional career in 1974 with the Workshop de Lyon, collaborating with Colette MAGNY.
In 1977, he took part in the creation of ARFI, and performed and recorded with the Marvelous band, la Marmite infernale...
In the early 80s, Louis SCLAVIS played in Henri TEXIER?s quartet, the Compagnie Lubat, Chris MACGREGOR?s Brotherhood of breath, with Michel PORTAL and European musicians such as Tony OXLEY, Evan PARKER, Peter BROTZMAN, Enrico RAVA, Thomas STANKO...
In 1984, Louis SCLAVIS formed his own groups (trios, quartets, sextets), with whom he recorded for Label bleu, ENJA, FMP, NATO, and above all ECM, and performed at numerous national and international festivals.
At the same time, he composes for cinema (Amos GUITAI, Bertrand TAVERNIER...), theater (Compagnie Christiane VERICEL, Jean-Louis MARTINELLI...) and dance (Mathilde MONNIER...). He regularly collaborates with actors (Jacques BONNAFFE, Jean-Paul DELORS... ), as well as with photographer Guy LEQUERREC.
More recently, Louis SCLAVIS recorded Napoli?s Walls and Characters on a Wall, based on works by visual artist Ernest PIGNON-ERNEST.
He is regularly invited to Europe (Italy, Romania, Poland, Germany, Belgium...) for concerts and recordings with musicians such as Lucian BAN, Maciej OBARA, Federico MARCHESANO, Aki TAKASE...

In 9 seasons, from 2015 to 2023, Jazz dans les prés represents: 206 shows, 78 guest artists, 214 musicians from Normandy, 20,851 spectators.
This original concept is based on creation and encounters: from now on, every 2 months throughout the year, from February to December, a renowned artist is invited to share the stage for 3 days with musicians from the region for unique musical moments, 18 concerts per season for a rich and eclectic program based on jazz and its related musics..urs a complete and accomplished technique that adapts to the challenges of touring, as well as a very accessible pricing policy: 12? full price / 9? reduced price / free for under 18s.
Jazz dans les prés also involves 4 intercommunity partners: Isigny Omaha Intercom, Seulles Terre & Mer, Flers Agglo, Saint-Lô Agglo, and 18 rural host towns per year in 3 départements: Calvados, Orne, Manche.
