An exploration of the female condition and universal issues, promoting an inclusive and deeply committed approach through Contemporary Art. At the heart of Les Arts aux Féminins is the desire to give a voice to women artists. Artists whose work questions the female condition, but also raises fundamental human and societal issues. Political and powerful, their universal works speak to all, beyond the divisive boundaries of gender. This event, organized by the cultural departments of Bagnoles de l'Orne, Domfront and Argentan, in no way claims to support a radical and sectarian feminism, but on the contrary to be inclusive: its aim is to question, through the facets of femininity, everything that constitutes the ambiguities of our humanity.
Gathered together and deployed across several sites, the chosen works explore the female condition through three major issues. Reversing beauty/demuseling the muses: around the body, the nude and its attributes. The selected works explore both the liberated, creative body, and the body as revealing the relationships of domination, oppression, violence and injunctions imposed by society, in both the social and intimate spheres. Rewriting history, myths and misappropriations: rewriting history for women. Certain approaches allow us to reread the great myths or popular imagery, deconstructing "masculine" myths and bringing female figures out of the shadows, forgotten by History.
The chosen creations explore the ambivalence of motherhood, between life and death, liberation and suffering. Embodying tensions and contradictions, the works also question the reductive clichés that confine femininity to boxes, such as the role of mother and lover. Some artists also question their relationship with childhood, bringing their own experiences of parenthood into the creative field.
