Didier Ruiz delivers portraits behind which lie delicate, sensitive worlds from another time. He offers the stage to non-professional seniors from the region, who come to recount their memories, loves and emotions. For over twenty years, the director has been traveling the world with the same set-up, sharing stories and lives. You might call it documentary theater, but this is a play in which the living pulsates and offers itself bare, stripped down and vibrant.


Didier Ruiz probes and collects fragments of memories before they disappear forever. Fascinated by the way they resurface, it is this journey through the barrier of oblivion that drives him. Bringing bits and pieces to the surface, like the old tapestries you find when you peel back the next ones in a house undergoing renovation. Accompany those who tell us, as in a wake, and let them tell us in their own words, in their own language, their memories. To ask for nothing except? I remember...? Didier Ruiz's work is centered on the portrait, the one that resembles a window in an Advent calendar that is delicately opened. Behind this shutter opens a precious world...

This creation was created in 1999 and has been reinvented forty times in several cities in France and abroad.
