One bored day, a ten-year-old boy raises his arm in the air and keeps it there for the rest of his life. Over the years, he becomes an object of ridicule, a medical textbook and an icon of the art scene.
Mon bras is the first play by English playwright Tim Crouch, and the Studio Monstre company has taken it on board, translating and adapting the text to create a one-man performance. Actor Théophile Sclavis takes the audience on an intimate journey through adolescence, using a video device that flirts with installation art to reveal the chance events that make up a life. "What happens if I do nothing?" seems to be the question posed by the piece, as a provocation to the performance and success injunctions of our time.
