Since 1912, Deauville has given pride of place to song: summer tours, major competitions, stays and residencies for singers, composers and songwriters. The beach and Les Planches welcome TV shoots and music videos. Early on, Deauville was involved in beach tours, forging special ties with Mistinguett and Maurice Chevalier, Dranem and Fragson. After the war, Deauville's Grand Concours de la Chanson revealed Juliette Gréco, Annie Cordy, Marcel Amont and Dario Moreno. Vincent Scotto and Edith Piaf frequent the Bar du Soleil. Gilbert Bécaud chose Deauville for his vacations, as did songwriters Pierre Delanoë and Eddy Marnay, and Claude Bolling. In the '80s, Serge Gainsbourg and Jane reunited with Régine. France Gall and Claude François are invited to shoot variety shows. From 1965 onwards, Christophe and Julien Clerc shot music videos, followed in 2024 by Grand Corps Malade? All these stories and moments are explored and recounted by Philippe Normand, a Deauville and song fanatic.
