As part of the European Heritage Days :
Presentation of the specific features of the great organ of Vimoutiers, classified as a Historic Monument, and its recent restoration, with the opportunity to step into the shoes of the blower and appreciate the range of musical performances. This is one of the last organs built by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, along with the one in the Tchaikowski Hall at the Moscow Conservatory of Music.
The visit will also offer an opportunity to discover the stained-glass windows created by the famous Gabriel Loire workshop in Chartres (the church's original stained-glass windows were blown out during the bombardment of June 14, 1944). These windows reflect post-war painting and architecture, using cut glass slabs and cement.
Visitors will also be able to discover the new sound bank, which will enable any organist to reproduce on his or her own electronic console the particular tones of the great Vimoutiers organ with its 30 stops.
Notre-Dame de Vimoutiers church was inaugurated in 1896. The neo-Gothic church was designed by Alfred-Louis Frangeul. It features stained glass windows by Gabriel Loire, inaugurated in 1956, as well as two organs, the Aristide Cavaillé-Coll grand organ inaugurated in 1899, and the Clergeau choir organ from the former church.
