Exposition : Croire au Front : La foi à l’épreuve du feu pendant les deux guerres mondiales

To 30/09/2024

Through the disorganization of religious structures and the new conditions under which the sacraments were administered, the Great War profoundly altered people?s relationship to faith and belief in the afterlife. It is this turning point, and its consequences for the new century and the Second World War, that this exhibition seeks to address, through collector?s items illustrating new forms of piety, developed and reinforced by the unprecedented experience of mass warfare. Individuals, caught up in the brutality of an industrial war, expressed the need for a new relationship with belief. The traces left by this inflexion and its consequences can still be seen in written testimonies and artifacts found in Normandy.
