Oscar Wilde was a regular visitor to Dieppe before his imprisonment for homosexuality from 1895 to 1897. He rubbed shoulders with many artists, in particular Jacques-Emile Blanche, his long-time friend, with whom he maintained close ties in the 1880s. This is why he decided to return to Dieppe as soon as he was released, when he chose exile.
