Theater "Mesure Pour Mesure? by William Shakespeare ? cie Dodeka
Denunciation of an arbitrary condemnation
The Duke of Vienna has never taken care to enforce the law condemning works of the flesh. Concerned about his popularity, he entrusts this thankless task to his cousin Angelo, under the pretext of having to leave for Poland. Claudio is the first victim of this sudden appointment, immediately condemned to death. Disguised as a monk, the Duke, who has not left the court, decides to prevent the innocent man?s death. The stage is transformed into an impromptu court of justice, where each side confronts the other in a plea for justice, religion and lust.
Vincent Poirier's adaptation takes a contemporary approach to Shakespeare's play Mesure Pour Mesure. He has deliberately called on families of artists from different horizons - including the Caen-based company Joe Sature and his merry knucklebones - to serve up this comedy that oscillates between burlesque and shadowy sequences.
