As part of the "Les Rendez-vous Soniques" festival, join us on November 10 at Saint-Lô's Salle Le Normandy for a concert by the group Dionysos.

Psssst! Close your eyes, take a deep breath and plunge back into 1993. While the grunge wave breaks, alternative rock makes resistance, a new French scene emerges and Alain Souchon floods the FM band with his Foule sentimentale, four boys full of future give their first concert on the terrace of a café in Valence. Forgotten on the side of the vacation freeway, the Drôme prefecture witnesses the birth of Dionysos. After a handful of rehearsals in the back of the family garage, the first thrills and pogos with high-school friends. Folk and electric guitars, bass, drums? The quartet, who admire the French rock band of the moment, Noir Désir, have digested solid Anglo-Saxon influences (Nirvana, Beck, PJ Harvey, Nick Cave, Pixies, The Doors, Sonic Youth, Pavement?) without denying the great names of French chanson and the pioneers of blues-rock. The fantastic ride has only just begun.

Now, open your eyes, exhale slowly and think of all the water that has flowed under the bridge, from the Rhône to the Mississippi, via Paris, Andalusia and Edinburgh. Thirty years have passed, the audio cassettes are gathering dust, but Dionysos is still there. And there. Ready to fight again, with the incredible energy of his debut and a new album, L?Extraordinarium, revisiting three decades of hits with an impressive array of guests. This is not a best-of, but an expanded version of a rich, protean body of work that owes much to the boundless imagination of Mathias Malzieu, part Peter Pan, part volcano man, part supercharged frontman, part delicate crooner with a chiseled songwriting style. He's an image-maker and chief surprise artist, the leader of a troupe that goes the extra mile.

The "Rendez-vous Soniques" festival is organized by Normandy, Scène de Musiques Actuelles, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Normandy Region, the Conseil départemental de la Manche, the Ville de Saint-Lô and Saint-Lô Agglo.
