Festival Les Arches en Jazz 2024

Major events,

PORT-BAIL-SUR-MER

From 20/09/2024

Les ARCHES en JAZZ is a cultural and educational project developed by a local team, designed to bring jazz and improvised music (blues, soul, world music, etc.) to a wide audience throughout the Cotentin region.

The musical inspiration this project aims to bring to life does not consist of artists and notes set against a magical backdrop, but rather of involving an entire population, in all its richness and diversity (inhabitants, second-home residents, tourists), by enlivening the whole of the area concerned.

Les ARCHES en JAZZ is a weekend of discovery and sharing, with half a dozen concerts on unexpected stages!

On the program for this 2024 edition:

Friday, September 20 :

> MAZARSKI.
Damien Cordelet and Gary Grandin (guitars), Manuel Decoq (violin), Hugues Letort (double bass).
In the world of gypsy jazz, few musicians have managed to emerge from the shadow of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Crappelli. Such is the case with this quartet, which has developed a highly personal harmonic and melodic approach.
Médiathèque de Port-Bail, 5.30pm - Free.

> LE SECRET.
Marion Rampal (vocals), Pierre-François Blanchard (piano).
In the words of critic Arièle Butaux, "Le Secret is an impertinent and elegant stroll between Baudelairean spleen and blus, guided by two rebels whom no music can confine".
Salle Emile Jeanne, Saint-Lô-d'Ourville, 8:30pm - 11? pre-sale price.

Saturday, September 21 :

> DUO BRADY, La Vie d'Après.
Michèle Pierre and Paul Colomb (cellos).
The Brady Duo draws on science fiction to imagine La Vie d'Après, in which a certain futuristic melancholy coexists with hope and celebration. The program features lyrical roundness, virtuoso improvisation, dance and trance.
Eglise Notre-Dame, Port-Bail, 12:00 pm - 11? pre-sale price.

> TRIO CHAKÂM (Winner of the Prix des Musiques d'Ici 2023)
Sogol Mirzei (târ), Christine Zayed (qanun), Marie-Suzanne De Loye (viola da gamba)
Based on classical Iranian, Arab and Baroque repertoires, Chakâm's performances feature resolutely modern compositions and improvisations.
Chapelle de Denneville plage, 4:30pm - 11? pre-sale price

> SPACE VACATION.
Etienne Manchon (piano), Pierre-Marie LAPPRAND (sax).
These two explorers share a common love of the unexpected, as well as a fascination for groove and electronic music, not to mention a contemplative impulse when it comes to exploring traditional music.

Followed by

> PIERRE MILLET 4TET / PLAYSTATION.
Pierre Millet (trumpet), Fidel Fourneyron (trombone), François Chesnel (piano), Patrice Grente (double bass).
This ensemble alternates between original compositions and covers, sometimes open and contemporary, sometimes close to bebop: an apparent contrast, but the cards reveal a subtle misdirection.
Salle Emile Jeanne, Saint-Lô-d'Ourville, 8:30pm - 11? pre-sale price.

Sunday September 22 :

> BLUES ROOTS COMBO.
Arnaud Fradin (guitar), Thomas Troussier (harmonica), Igor Pichon (double bass), Richard Housset (drums).
This acoustic quartet pays tribute to the blues roots of Lightnin' Hopkins, Muddy Waters and Skip James. The program is a tasty gumbo of raw emotion and blues roots, with a touch of originality.
Havre de Port-Bail, 12:00 pm - Free.

No reservations for free concerts.
