During our recent trip to Rouen, my sister and I felt an irresistible urge to venture beyond the city and explore the breathtaking landscapes of the Seine Valley. We chose a guided kayak tour along the majestic River Seine, embarking on an invigorating outdoor adventure that allowed us to connect with nature, soak in the stunning scenery.

Activity Overview
Manon and Leah share their story
Along the River Seine
Arriving at the Belbeuf nautical base, home to the local club ‘Pagaies en Seine,’ we’re warmly greeted by Hugo and his team. After receiving our safety vests and paddles, our guide briefs us on the exciting hour-long adventure ahead—paddling through the dedicated water activity zone along the left arm of the Seine.
The journey begins with an energizing paddle against the current, giving us a sporty start! Leah and I, teaming up for tandem paddling, quickly find our rhythm as we glide together in perfect harmony on our two-seater kayak. The beat of the Dragon Boat alongside us sets the tempo, adding an exciting and dynamic touch to our adventure. This traditional Chinese vessel, similar to a canoe, accommodates a larger group, making the experience all the more thrilling.

Hugo knows every twist and turn of the river, always keeping a watchful eye on the group. Midway through our journey, he leads us on a delightful detour, guiding us through the islands of the Seine, between Ligard Island and Saint-Antoine Island, adding an extra touch of magic to our adventure. We’re pleasantly surprised by the abundance of birdlife, our companions on this immersive journey. In the distance, we catch sight of a majestic heron taking flight. Hugo tells us that we’re crossing a NATURA 2000 area, part of the European Union’s network of protected zones designed to conserve biodiversity and ensure the sustainable use of natural resources.

We stumble upon a remarkable sight: the troglodyte chapel of Saint-Adrien. Perched high above the Seine, this awe-inspiring chapel is built right into the cliffside – a truly impressive landmark.
Paddling Back into the Sunset
As the sun begins its descent, we gather our gear and glide across the water, heading back to our starting point. Before us, the sky transforms into a mesmerizing canvas of orange, pink, and purple, with the colours and reflections adding a magical touch to our adventure. The current carries us effortlessly, making the return journey both easy and exhilarating. As the excursion comes to an end, so does the day, leaving us buzzing with excitement. We’ve had an unforgettable experience, and we’re already craving more! We’ll definitely be back to try the Dragon Boat!
