Mingei – Leatherwork workshop: leather belt (teenagers and adults)

This is the most comprehensive workshop of the season. On Wednesday 30 December, from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm, Stéphanie Sublemontier-Vauclin, a saddler and leatherworker, will be teaching the skills of the trade to anyone wishing to make their own leather belt at the Trouville-sur-Mer Tourist Office.
Over the course of three hours, each participant will go through every stage of the process: choosing the leather strap and buckle, cutting it to length, finishing the edges, punching holes, fitting the buckle and personalising the belt. The material used is a thick, vegetable-tanned leather – elegant and durable – which develops a beautiful patina over the years. Open to anyone aged 13 and over, the workshop doesn’t require any prior DIY experience, just a little patience and a desire to learn.
Stéphanie, founder of Mingei, a workshop specialising in handcrafted leather goods on the Côte Fleurie, works with vegetable-tanned leathers and more unexpected materials. The leather, buckle, accessories and use of tools are all included.
The result: a belt tailored to your waist, which you’ll wear for years to come, remembering that you made it yourself.
