Lecture – Jules Dumont d’Urville, a distinguished explorer from Normandy

Musée Villa Montebello 14360 TROUVILLE-SUR-MER

The Villa Montebello Museum is opening its doors for a lecture dedicated to one of the leading figures in French maritime exploration. On Saturday 31 October 2026 at 5 pm, Mireille Grosjean will take us on a journey of rediscovery through the life of Jules Dumont d’Urville, a navigator born in Normandy.

From hydrographic surveys to the expeditions aboard the Astrolabe and the Zélée to the southern seas, his journey traces that of an explorer, but also of a scholar curious about all that distant lands might reveal. The lithograph depicting the two corvettes trapped in the ice still bears witness today to the scale of these campaigns.

Organised in partnership with the Friends of the Trouville Museum and Regional History Society, this event is open to all, free of charge, subject to booking. It offers an opportunity to extend your visit to the museum with a chance to share in the story of a Norman life dedicated to the open seas.
