Normandy commemorates this tragic period of world history every single year. 2027 will mark the 83rd Anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy, and with it, yet another occasion to celebrate peace, liberty, and reconciliation.
The 83rd Anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy will see increased collaboration with international partners and veterans’ organisations, reinforcing the global significance of D-Day and fostering a shared commitment to preserving its memory. Each year, the D-Day commemorations take on greater symbolic significance as the number of veterans able to attend dwindles. The 83rd Anniversary could be one of the last times a substantial group of veterans will participate, making these moments particularly emotional. The 83rd Anniversary will also mark a transition toward new forms of commemoration, with a stronger focus on preserving the lasting legacy of D-Day for future generations.
The D-Day Festival
Every year, the tourist offices situated along and near the D-Day Landing Beaches come together to coordinate the D-Day Festival, which features commemorative events and festivities on the five D-Day Landing Beaches and in Sainte-Mère-Église, Bayeux and Arromanches-les-Bains (Gold Beach sector) to name a few places.

A few visits and activities

Immerse yourself in the the critical first hours of combat between German and American forces on 6 June 1944.
The Airborne Museum’s Camp Geronimo
In Sainte-Mère-Eglise, in the field right behind the Airborne Museum, Camp Géronimo is held every year. The programme includes faithful reconstructions of the installations used by the American troops, particularly the paratroopers, during the Battle of Normandy, daily workshops run by enthusiasts, parades and vehicle exhibitions.
A real C-47 Dakota Aircraft
Visit the Merville Battery Museum for a chance to climb into a real C-47 Dakota SNAFU Special involved in the airborne assaults on D-Day, and get a feel of what paratroopers went through on their journey across the English Channel. This superb American-made aircraft is the only one of its kind in Normandy to be a listed historic monument.
