Theatre: “Monsieur chasse!”
The Saturday 17 April at 21 a.m00
Casino Barrière Deauville 2 rue Edmond Blanc 14800 DEAUVILLE
It is indeed a hunting expedition – in every sense of the word – to which Feydeau invites us in this biting vaudeville, which, with just a few characters, creates a wealth of burlesque and side-splitting situations.
Taking advantage of his friend Duchotel’s departure on a hunting trip, Moricet woos his wife, Léontine. She initially refuses, unless she were to discover that she herself was being cheated on – which, unsurprisingly, is exactly what happens… They all end up at the same address, under the roof of the Countess Latour: 40 Rue d’Athènes…
“Monsieur chasse!” is the vaudeville of all vaudevilles that made its author famous; indeed, it was Feydeau’s own favourite play. It features that whirlwind of impossible situations involving husbands, wives, mistresses, lovers and neighbours… which earned Feydeau—who has never been equalled in this art—the epithets ‘engineer of laughter’ and ‘genius clockmaker’.
