Who isn’t familiar with Anglo-Norman or Neo-Norman architecture? It is easy to see that it continues to shape the coastal landscapes of Normandy.
In the 19th century, Trouville, Deauville and the seaside resorts of the Côte Fleurie saw the development of a regionalist architectural style inspired by traditional Augeronne architecture and sometimes enriched with references to the English picturesque. Anglo-Norman or Neo-Norman architecture gradually established itself as the dominant style, both in private projects and public commissions.
Juliette Morel holds a Master’s degree in the History of Architecture from the University of Rennes, completed in partnership with the École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Bretagne. Her research dissertation focused on the acculturation of a picturesque Norman and British style in the seaside resorts of the Côte Fleurie in the mid-19th century. She is currently responsible for the management of artworks and the promotion of the collections at the Villa Montebello Museum in Trouville-sur-Mer.
