The Franciscan Sisters on stage: Hansel and Gretel, by the Ubique Collective

Through an imaginative adaptation, the Collectif Ubique breathes new life into the Brothers Grimm fairy tale. Theatre, music and storytelling intertwine to recount the coming-of-age adventure of two children as they confront their fears and their desire for freedom.

In this reimagining of Hansel and Gretel, the Collectif Ubique weaves the power of the narrative with a live musical performance. As we follow the two children lost in the forest, the production delicately explores themes of hunger, courage, solidarity and the ability to grow in the face of the unknown. Period instruments, the performers’ voices and their acting combine to create a highly inventive soundscape and theatrical world, where the marvellous rubs shoulders with the uncanny strangeness of folk tales. True to the Collectif Ubique’s artistic approach, this production highlights the enduring relevance of this seminal tale and invites every audience member, whatever their age, to rediscover the joy of listening and of using their imagination.
