Santorini Exhibition – Patrick Gheleyns (Surface Sans Cible collective)

Espace Saint-Patrice 1, rue du marché 14400 BAYEUX

Santorini without tourists – it is possible!
White, blue, red ochre, and black.
Narrow streets to lose yourself in, leading out to the void, the crater, the caldera.
Textures that play with the light of the early morning.
And cats.

To break in my Hasselblad (a bit of a splurge), I needed textures: black lava, red earth, sand—
white, black, red. With a medium-format camera, one photo is 100 megapixels.

That means you can really delve into the details of the photograph.
So I took panoramas and close-ups.
A joy that I hope to share with you.

I needed infinite perspectives, shady alleyways that open up unexpectedly onto the vast expanse.
I needed time. That’s why I went to Santorini before the tourist season began.
The islanders were preparing the island like a young bride. White dominates the scene. Here and there, an
ochre façade, a blue roof.

Red, black and white beaches. The blue sea, magnificent from the top of the cliffs. And in the middle of the
caldera, the black and red volcano, hostile and awe-inspiring.

The moment I saw a photo of tourists crowding together for that Instagram shot, that was the signal for me to pack my bags.
