Planches Contact Festival #17 – Film and Snacks: “Persepolis” by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud

Planches Contact Festival explores Iran’s recent history and the aspirations of its young people. Echoing Newsha Tavakolian’s exhibition at Les Franciscaines, this film and tea party invites you to (re)discover *Persepolis*, an animated film directed by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud, released in 2007 and adapted from her autobiographical graphic novel. With humour, emotion and an incredible narrative, the film follows the journey of a young girl facing the Iranian Revolution, exile and the quest for her freedom.

Winner of the Jury Prize at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival and nominated for the Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2008, *Persepolis* has established itself as a major work of contemporary animated cinema. By blending personal memory with a universal narrative, the film resonates with undiminished power. As Marjane Satrapi passed away last June, this screening takes on a special significance: that of a tribute to an artist whose free-spirited voice has permanently changed our perspective on Iran and on the power of storytelling.

The screening is suitable for children aged 12 and over, followed by a tasting of Iranian delicacies, to extend the journey and share this cinematic moment with the whole family.
