Museum Events: Hiramatsu Reiji – “I dream of Giverny all the time”

The Sunday 01 November at 16 a.m00

Les Franciscaines – Deauville 14800 DEAUVILLE

In 1994, whilst visiting his first solo exhibition in France, Hiramatsu Reiji discovered Claude Monet’s *Grandes Décorations* at the Musée de l’Orangerie before travelling to Giverny.

Fascinated by the master’s work and by the parallels between Monet’s world and the Japanese pictorial tradition, Hiramatsu Reiji has devoted a significant part of his work to reinterpreting the Water Lilies. The Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny has dedicated two major exhibitions to him, in 2013 and again in 2024, which have led to the creation of a collection of over 120 works.

Through this discussion, Cyrille Sciama looks back at Reiji Hiramatsu’s career and his unique dialogue with Claude Monet, which bears witness to the vitality and universality of Giverny’s legacy.

Cyrille Sciama has been Chief Heritage Curator and Director-General of the Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny since 2019.
