Exhibition: Photographs by Gilles Compain and paintings by Gilles Lozac’h

The Saturday 24 October

Galerie d'Art "Un rêve éveillé" 168 avenue de la République 14800 DEAUVILLE

The “Un Rêve Éveillé” art gallery is capitalising on the artistic momentum of Photography Month and the Planches Contact Festival to showcase two artists: Gilles Compain, a photographer, and Gilles Lozac’h, a painter.

GILLES COMPAIN – ARCHITECTURAL PHOTOGRAPHS OF KAZAKHSTAN
Gilles Compain is a French photographer born in Paris in 1971. His numerous trips abroad, particularly to California, and his passion for design and ‘mid-century’ modernist architecture have been a true source of inspiration and learning, deepening his perception of space.
Certain leading international architects, such as Lautner, Neutra, Wright and Niemeyer… have particularly influenced him, enabling him to develop his taste for bold contemporary architecture and his penchant for the graphic interplay of geometry, light, shadow, minimalism and abstract forms.
After exploring American modernism and Brazilian modernism in Brasília, he travelled to Kazakhstan to discover the historical legacy of Soviet architecture, photographing modernist and brutalist buildings in the former capital, Almaty, and in the fascinating and surprising new capital, Astana, which stands out for its contemporary and futuristic architecture.
His work has been exhibited on several occasions in art galleries in Palm Springs in the USA, in Germany, in Brussels and in Paris.

GILLES LOZAC’H – FAMILY TREES
French painter Gilles Lozac’h, born in 1970, works between Paris and Normandy.
His ‘Family Trees’ consist of polymorphic figures, created from basic geometric shapes; once assembled, these give life to familiar beings who explore individual stories within the collective.
In his paintings and drawings, Gilles Lozac’h creates a pop, graphic and colourful world; he has drawn inspiration from the works of Keith Haring, Takashi Murakami and Otto Freundlich.
