A musical moment
The Friday 13 November at 19 a.m00
médiathèque Les 7 Lieux 1, boulevard Fabian Ware 14400 BAYEUX
For this instalment of *L’Instant Musical*, *Les 7 Lieux* takes you on a musical journey through songs and polyphonic music from around the world (Armenia, Mexico, Brazil, Iran…) – a window opening between here and elsewhere, for a brief moment at Les 7 Lieux, with the group Azatjam.
Azatjam, meaning ‘free time’ in Armenian, brings to life forgotten stories, both ancient and more contemporary. Stories told in the past tense or reflecting the world today; often stories of women, who struggle and sometimes speak out. The group explores timbres and polyphony to convey the richness of these experiences, through Armenian, Brazilian, Mexican, Iranian and many other melodies. Their arrangements and compositions blend traditional sounds with a confident modernity.
Anaïs, Méri and Joséphine met at the CRR in Caen whilst studying opera singing and sang together in various classical ensembles. Gradually, their musical friendship led them to develop projects for three voices, opening themselves up to new repertoires. They then turned to traditional music, moved by the immediate emotion of its sounds and the richness of the stories these pieces carry with them. Thus, in 2023, the group Azatjam was formed. Following numerous concerts in Normandy and elsewhere, Azatjam has been performing in an expanded line-up since autumn 2025, featuring the musician Soroush Kamalian. A kamancha player, he enhances his instrument’s sound using a pedalboard and also plays hand percussion. Azatjam’s musical identity thus blends modernity and tradition, featuring unique arrangements and their own compositions.
