An easy ride for everyone
Cycle at your own pace, soak in stunning coastal scenery, and indulge in gourmet treats along the way—that’s the magic of Petite Reine, the company founded by cycling enthusiast Hugo.
Our journey begins bright and early in the picturesque medieval town of Bayeux, an unmissable highlight in Normandy. Before starting our 30km adventure, Hugo gives us a quick introduction to electric bikes. It’s a first for us, but the bikes are comfortable, and the controls are surprisingly easy to master. Our journey takes us toward the coast, starting along peaceful country lanes. Along the way, we’ll pass through about ten picture-perfect villages, each more delightful than the last.

Traveling Through Time
Asnelles is famous for its long sandy beach, a historic landmark of the D-Day landings, but it is equally celebrated for its delightful biscuits. We arrive at the biscuit factory, which features a striking blue facade. Hugo invites us to savour the renowned sablés, made with the region’s prestigious AOP butter from Isigny, while enjoying the atmosphere on the terrace. It becomes clear why this biscuit factory, established in 1904, has become a beloved local institution.

Our next stop is the town of Arromanches, where we explore the remains of the artificial Mulberry Harbour. Hugo provides an insightful overview of its strategic importance during the D-Day Landings, bringing this remarkable chapter of history to life in a way that leaves us deeply captivated.
A Seaside Picnic with Local Flavours
It’s time for lunch, with stunning sea views, of course! Hugo has prepared a traditional picnic featuring local products, including iconic staples of Norman cuisine and a few delightful surprises. The red-and-white checkered tablecloth is spread out, perfectly complementing the coastal backdrop. A platter of cheeses (with Camembert and Pont-l’Évêque) and charcuterie is ready to be savored. For dessert, there’s teurgoule, a Normandy specialty made with rice, milk, and a touch of cinnamon.Needless to say, we’re in for a treat!

Cider and Apple Juice Made in Normandy
Well-fed and re-energized, we hop back on our bikes and head to the Grand Fumichon cider farm in Vaux-sur-Aure. The setting is quintessentially Bessin, characterized by its charming rural landscapes. As we pass under a stunning stone archway, we arrive at the collection of buildings that make up the Grand Fumichon farm.
Thomas greets us warmly and will be our guide for both the visit and the much-anticipated tasting. Dating back to the 16th century, the farm has a rich tradition of cider-making. Thomas leads us to the old press, where we discover fascinating details: inscriptions and the telltale marks of alcohol evaporation on the walls, hinting at the rich history these walls have witnessed.

Here at the Grand Fumichon farm, a variety of artisanal ciders are crafted using traditional cider apple varieties. Thomas then takes us to his shop, where he serves us a glass of their delicious apple juice—it’s truly delightful! We also explore and taste the rest of his production, including cider and calvados, which he discusses with great passion. We raise our glasses to this memorable day filled with history and culinary delights before heading back to Bayeux.
