A 3D map at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rouen

Since the beginning of 2023, Rouen‘s Fine Arts Museum has been offering a tool designed for the visually impaired. Virtuoz was developed by a company based in Rouen. It is easy to use for blind or partially sighted people and displays a simplified 3D map of the museum. Thanks to the 3D effect, you can create a mental image of the environment.

A tour of the Abbaye aux Hommes in Caen

A jewel of medieval architecture founded by William the Conqueror, the Men’s Abbey has a specially adapted itinerary. You will start by discovering the topography of the site thanks to a relief model of the buildings. The visit continues with a self-guided tour. There are signs in large print and Braille. For groups of at least 10 people (please book in advance), there is a sensory tour of the Abbey, where you can touch the furnishings (woodwork, stonework, wrought iron, liturgical vestments) and explore the beautiful gardens.
Other facilities are available for people with other disabilities. For more information, see the “Accessibility” section of the Caen city council website.

Interesting initiatives at the Juno Beach Centre

If you’re a history buff, a visit to the Juno Beach Centre, on one of the 5 D-Day Landing Beaches, is a must. We appreciate the initiatives taken to make your visit easier. There are rest areas throughout the permanent exhibition and in the main hall. Wheelchairs, folding walking sticks, illuminated magnifying glasses (X30), welcome booklets in Braille, a thermo-inflated map, a magnetic loop (position T) and FALC (easy to read and understand) booklets are available free of charge.

On the archaeological site of Vieux-la-Romaine

We’re staying in Calvados to explore the fascinating museum and site at Vieux-la-Romaine. The team is very aware of disability issues and has taken a number of initiatives to help the public. For visitors with intellectual disabilities, the museum offers a FALC document (easy to read and understand). Do you have a motor disability? The whole museum is accessible. A special feature is a viewing point specially designed for wheelchair users, with an explanatory panel and an uninterrupted view of the remains. There is also a magnetic loop for visitors who are deaf or have hearing loss. A sign language interpreter-guide can accompany you on your visit (by prior arrangement).
And if you are visually impaired, tactile objects and inscriptions in Braille will make your visit easier.
