Guided tour

à TROUVILLE-SUR-MER

Tour of the Saint-Jean district – the city's historic quarter

Long before the villas and sea bathing, Trouville-sur-Mer was a village nestled at the foot of the Callenville valley, dominated by the bell tower of its Church of Saint John the Baptist. It is this historic heart of the village that the Compagnons de la Chapelle Saint-Jean bring to life during this free tour.

Starting at Le Quernet, the route winds through the narrow streets leading from the cove to the old church – now reduced to the status of a chapel – running alongside Madame de Boigne’s estate. It then crosses the former estate of the d’Estimauville family to reach the first cemetery of the people of Trouville, which once surrounded the church. The guides explain how Notre-Dame-des-Victoires replaced the original church and recount the establishment of the hospice and hospital thanks to generous donors. Return to the starting point by following the course of the Callenville stream.

An immersive tour of the town’s historic quarter, off the beaten track.
